Project overview
We are looking at options for developing the trail hub in the valley area of the Clarence Mountain Bike Park, located by the railway abutment (known as Grassy Valley).
Preliminary consultation was undertaken with coaches and Clarence MTB Committee members, which includes representatives from the Meehan Trail Groomers. The feedback received from this preliminary consultation was used by Next Level MTB to prepare a concept plan for the Railway Abutment Trail Hub area.
The concept plan is focused on creating a new coaching/practice area at the concrete slab and new or modified trails in the vicinity.
We are now seeking community feedback on the four main proposals for the area.
This includes:
- A new coaching/practice area for novices to develop basic skills.
- A new green climbing track of five percent grade to provide an alternative start for the XC loop.
- A modified returning track from the XC loop to the hub.
- Modifications for the XC return.
Background
In 2018, council received a grant from the State Government’s Cycle Tourism Fund to carry out projects on council-managed land at the Clarence Mountain Bike Park, as well as the area above Stringy Bark Gully (which is licenced from Hanson).
The funding included:
- Cliffhanger black diamond descent (complete).
- Simmons Hill blue square descent (complete).
- Logs Track blue square extension (complete).
- Elevator green circle climb (to be constructed in late 2020 to early 2021 in Stringy Bark Gully).
- Access track from Flagstaff Gully Link carpark to skills park (complete).
- Picnic shelter at Skills Park (complete).
- Skills Park stage two (complete).
- Additional tracks and modifications to the main hub area by the railway abutment.
With the planned installation of an internal carpark by the Skills Park, the open grassy area will no longer be available for use for coaching sessions.
Many coaches already use the concrete slab and it was felt that this area would be suitable for developing a practice area that can be used by coaches, individuals and school groups.
Have your say
We are seeking community feedback on the following four proposals for the area:
- Concrete slab practice/coaching area
- New green climb to XC loop
- Return track from XC loop to hub
- Modifications for the XC return
This consultation will take the form of a survey, which contains four main sections addressing each of the proposals listed above.
Feedback received through this consultation will then be used to guide the works at the Railway Abutment Trail Hub area.
